Physical Therapy

Pediatric physical therapy helps children develop large or gross motor skills and builds muscle strength and flexibility to assist children in moving through their environment with the most efficiency. The pediatric physical therapists that work with children through the Chicago Therapeutic Children’s Academy help students access their classroom space and take a close look at their posture, strength and endurance, which can have a major effect on learning.  They work with children in our custom built indoor playground and climbing space to safely navigate obstacles and climbing structures, with and without peers present.

In addition to this, we work on the quality of movement that each child has. For example, our therapists work with each child on the quality of their walking, running and jumping, so that they can become active participants in their classroom and beyond.  They make modifications so that each child is set up for success, whether it is floor sitting, sitting at the table, climbing or running.

With the collaboration of physical therapists in each classroom, the whole child, their endurance and their motor planning and coordination can be addressed.
